Terralith
by Stardust Labs
A massive world generation overhaul that adds over 95 new biomes while preserving full vanilla compatibility. No mods required.
Overview
Terralith rebuilds the Overworld's surface generation entirely through worldgen JSON, layering more than 95 new biomes onto the vanilla noise system without touching any blocks or mobs. Stardust Labs leans on the 1.18+ noise router and density functions so towering mountains, deep canyons, and otherworldly valleys emerge from the engine itself rather than from placed structures. Because it only redefines terrain and biome placement, vanilla villages, monuments, and mobs all still spawn in fitting places. The result is an exploration overhaul that feels native to the base game.
It suits exploration-focused players and survival servers wanting a dramatic Overworld without installing a mod loader. It comes from Stardust Labs, sits in the World Generation category, and is rated a simple, drop-in pack to run. Everything happens through vanilla data pack functions, so no mod loader such as Fabric or Forge is required to use it on Minecraft 1.20 through 1.21.4.
Features
- 95+ new biomes fully integrated
- Custom terrain shapes and cave generation
- Vanilla structure compatibility
- No mod loader required
- Multiplayer compatible
How It Works
Under the hood, Terralith relies on plain data pack mechanics rather than any client mod. Here is what happens in-game once it is loaded:
- 1New biomes are injected into the vanilla noise router via density-function JSON, not hardcoded patches.
- 2Surface rules repaint stone, dirt, and grass layers so each biome reads distinctly at ground level.
- 3Vanilla structure spreads are widened so villages and ruins still anchor across the new terrain.
- 4Cave carvers are retuned so the rewritten surfaces flow smoothly into vanilla cave and aquifer systems.
Supported Versions
Compatibility
Works alongside other data packs. May conflict with other world-gen packs.
- Designed to stack with the Stardust Labs suite, Incendium and Nullscape, which cover other dimensions.
- Conflicts with other Overworld worldgen overhauls such as Tectonic since both rewrite the noise router.
- Pairs cleanly with structure packs like Structory that only add structures rather than reshaping terrain.
An optional companion resource pack adds custom biome ambience, fog and sky tints, and music to match the new environments, but it is not required for the terrain itself.

How to Install
Terralith installs as a standard Java Edition data pack and runs on both singleplayer worlds and multiplayer servers. Recent 1.21 releases bumped the data pack format, so keep the pack's pack.mcmeta in step with your server version.
- 1.Download the Terralith pack as a .zip and keep it zipped.
- 2.Open the target world folder — a singleplayer save under .minecraft/saves, or the world folder on your server.
- 3.Drop the .zip into that world's datapacks folder, creating the folder if it does not exist.
- 4.Load the world (or run /reload if it is already open) and run /datapack list to confirm it is enabled.
The pack is built for Minecraft 1.20 through 1.21.4, so it loads on vanilla Java without Fabric, Forge or any other mod loader. Because it is a worldgen pack, add Terralith before generating a world; existing saves only show its terrain in newly explored, never-loaded chunks.

Which Minecraft versions does Terralith support?
It targets Minecraft Java Edition 1.20 through 1.21.4, including the 1.20.1 and 1.20.4 points in between.
Do I need Fabric or Forge to run Terralith?
No. It is a pure vanilla data pack of worldgen JSON, so it runs on an unmodified server or single-player save.
Will Terralith change my existing world?
Only chunks you have not yet visited will generate with its biomes; already-explored land stays as it was, often leaving a visible seam at the border.
Does Terralith add new mobs or items?
No. It focuses entirely on terrain and biome generation and leaves vanilla mobs, blocks, and loot unchanged.
Can I play Terralith on a multiplayer server?
Yes. It is multiplayer compatible and only needs to be installed server-side, since worldgen is handled by the server.
