XP Boost Ores

by Community

Mining ores gives bonus XP on top of the vanilla amounts. Diamond, emerald, and ancient debris give the most bonus XP.

Overview

XP Boost Ores layers extra experience on top of the orbs vanilla already gives when you break an ore, with the bonus scaled to how rare the ore is. Diamond, emerald, and ancient debris reward the heaviest boosts, while commoner ores grant a smaller top-up. Because the bonus rides on the normal mining drop, the Fortune enchantment still works alongside it. Silk Touch is the exception: a silk-touched ore block drops as a block and yields no experience, so no bonus is added.

It suits survival and skyblock-style players who grind ores and want mining to level them up noticeably faster. It comes from Community, sits in the Gameplay category, and is rated a simple, drop-in pack to run. Everything happens through vanilla data pack functions, so no mod loader such as Fabric or Forge is required to use it on Minecraft 1.20 through 1.21.4.

How It Works

Under the hood, XP Boost Ores relies on plain data pack mechanics rather than any client mod. Here is what happens in-game once it is loaded:

  1. 1A break trigger detects ore mining and awards bonus XP beyond the vanilla orbs.
  2. 2Bonus amounts are weighted by ore rarity so rarer ores pay out more.
  3. 3Fortune still rolls drops normally because the boost rides the standard mining event.
  4. 4Silk Touch yields the ore block and no XP, so the predicate adds nothing.

Supported Versions

1.201.20.11.20.41.211.21.4

Compatibility

Compatible with most data packs.

  • Conflicts with packs that also rewrite ore-mining experience values.
  • Coexists with Fortune-based packs since it reads the same standard mining drop.
  • Has no effect on Silk Touch mining, so packs around silk harvesting stay unaffected.

XP Boost Ores is a pure data pack and does not ship a resource pack, so it changes server-side behaviour without altering textures, models or sounds on the client.

How to Install

XP Boost Ores installs as a standard Java Edition data pack and runs on both singleplayer worlds and multiplayer servers. Recent 1.21 releases bumped the data pack format, so keep the pack's pack.mcmeta in step with your server version.

  1. 1.Download the XP Boost Ores pack as a .zip and keep it zipped.
  2. 2.Open the target world folder — a singleplayer save under .minecraft/saves, or the world folder on your server.
  3. 3.Drop the .zip into that world's datapacks folder, creating the folder if it does not exist.
  4. 4.Load the world (or run /reload if it is already open) and run /datapack list to confirm it is enabled.

The pack is built for Minecraft 1.20 through 1.21.4, so it loads on vanilla Java without Fabric, Forge or any other mod loader. Add it to the datapacks folder or load it server-side, and the bonus XP applies to ores mined after install.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I get bonus XP when mining ores with Silk Touch?

No, a silk-touched ore drops as a block and gives no experience, so the XP bonus never applies to it.

Which Minecraft versions are supported?

It works on Java Edition 1.20, 1.20.1, 1.20.4, 1.21, and 1.21.4.

Does this need a mod or loader?

No, it is a vanilla data pack and runs without Fabric, Forge, or any mod.

Which ores give the most extra experience?

Diamond, emerald, and ancient debris give the largest bonus because the boost scales with ore rarity.

Is the bonus on top of the normal XP or instead of it?

It is added on top of the vanilla amount, so you still receive the usual orbs plus the extra.

Does it still work with Fortune?

Yes, Fortune functions normally and the XP bonus applies alongside your boosted drops.
