VeinMiner
by Community
Mine entire ore veins by breaking one block while sneaking. Works with all ores and can be configured for other block types.
Overview
VeinMiner lets you clear a whole connected ore vein by breaking just one block while holding sneak, turning a tedious dig into a single action. The sneak key acts as the trigger, so you mine normally when standing and chain the vein only when crouched. Each extra block broken still costs tool durability, keeping the convenience balanced against wear on your pickaxe. It works across all ore types and exposes a configurable block limit so you can cap how large a single vein-mine can get.
It suits survival and SMP miners who want faster ore collection without giving up the durability cost of breaking each block. It comes from Community, sits in the Quality of Life category, and is rated a moderate pack to run. Everything happens through vanilla data pack functions, so no mod loader such as Fabric or Forge is required to use it on Minecraft 1.20 through 1.21.4.
Features
- Mine full ore veins at once
- Activated by sneaking
- Tool durability consumed per block
- Works with all ore types
- Configurable block limit
How It Works
Under the hood, VeinMiner relies on plain data pack mechanics rather than any client mod. Here is what happens in-game once it is loaded:
- 1Sneaking while breaking a block flags the action as a vein-mine trigger.
- 2Connected matching blocks are detected and broken from the single starting break.
- 3Tool durability is deducted for every additional block the vein consumes.
- 4A configurable limit caps how many blocks one activation will mine.
Supported Versions
Compatibility
Compatible with most data packs.
- May conflict with other packs that alter block-breaking behaviour or hook the same break event.
- Coexists with most loot and tweak packs since it changes how blocks break, not what they drop.
- The block limit can be tuned to avoid runaway mining when used with large custom veins.
VeinMiner is a pure data pack and does not ship a resource pack, so it changes server-side behaviour without altering textures, models or sounds on the client.

How to Install
VeinMiner installs as a standard Java Edition data pack and runs on both singleplayer worlds and multiplayer servers. Recent 1.21 releases bumped the data pack format, so keep the pack's pack.mcmeta in step with your server version.
- 1.Download the VeinMiner pack as a .zip and keep it zipped.
- 2.Open the target world folder — a singleplayer save under .minecraft/saves, or the world folder on your server.
- 3.Drop the .zip into that world's datapacks folder, creating the folder if it does not exist.
- 4.Load the world (or run /reload if it is already open) and run /datapack list to confirm it is enabled.
The pack is built for Minecraft 1.20 through 1.21.4, so it loads on vanilla Java without Fabric, Forge or any other mod loader. Install it via the datapacks folder or server-side, then hold sneak while breaking an ore to chain the whole vein.

How do I activate vein mining?
Hold the sneak key while breaking a block, and the connected vein is mined from that single break.
Does it drain my tool's durability?
Yes, durability is consumed for each block broken, so a large vein wears your tool more.
Which Minecraft versions does VeinMiner support?
It supports Java Edition 1.20, 1.20.1, 1.20.4, 1.21, and 1.21.4.
Do I need a mod loader for it?
No, it is a vanilla data pack and runs without Fabric or Forge.
Can I limit how many blocks it mines at once?
Yes, the pack offers a configurable block limit so you can cap the size of each vein-mine.
Does it only work on ores?
It works with all ore types out of the box and can be configured to cover other block types too.
