Pillager Tools Drop

by Community

Pillagers and other illagers drop their weapons and equipment when killed. Crossbows, axes, and iron items become lootable.

Overview

Pillager Tools Drop edits illager loot tables so the raiders you defeat finally hand over the gear they were carrying. Cut down a pillager and you can recover its crossbow, while vindicators part with their iron axes. Evokers continue to drop the totem of undying they always give in vanilla, with emeralds layered in alongside. The Looting enchantment is wired into these tables, so a sharper sword nudges the odds of better salvage in your favour.

It fits survival servers and raid-heavy worlds where players want killing illagers to feel rewarding instead of empty-handed. It comes from Community, sits in the Loot category, and is rated a simple, drop-in pack to run. Everything happens through vanilla data pack functions, so no mod loader such as Fabric or Forge is required to use it on Minecraft 1.20 through 1.21.4.

How It Works

Under the hood, Pillager Tools Drop relies on plain data pack mechanics rather than any client mod. Here is what happens in-game once it is loaded:

  1. 1Illager loot tables gain weapon and equipment entries that roll on death.
  2. 2Pillager tables include a crossbow pool so the bow becomes reliably lootable.
  3. 3Vindicator tables add an iron axe entry tied to the kill event.
  4. 4Looting level feeds the loot roll to raise drop quantity and chance.

Compatibility

Compatible with most data packs.

  • Leaves the vanilla evoker totem drop intact and only adds emeralds beside it.
  • Plays well with most packs since it touches only illager loot tables.
  • May clash with any pack that rewrites the same pillager, vindicator, or evoker loot tables.

Pillager Tools Drop is a pure data pack and does not ship a resource pack, so it changes server-side behaviour without altering textures, models or sounds on the client.

How to Install

Pillager Tools Drop installs as a standard Java Edition data pack and runs on both singleplayer worlds and multiplayer servers. Recent 1.21 releases bumped the data pack format, so keep the pack's pack.mcmeta in step with your server version.

  1. 1.Download the Pillager Tools Drop pack as a .zip and keep it zipped.
  2. 2.Open the target world folder — a singleplayer save under .minecraft/saves, or the world folder on your server.
  3. 3.Drop the .zip into that world's datapacks folder, creating the folder if it does not exist.
  4. 4.Load the world (or run /reload if it is already open) and run /datapack list to confirm it is enabled.

The pack is built for Minecraft 1.20 through 1.21.4, so it loads on vanilla Java without Fabric, Forge or any other mod loader. Place it in the datapacks folder or load it server-side, and the new drops apply to illagers killed after activation.

What versions of Minecraft does this loot pack run on?

It supports Java Edition 1.20, 1.20.1, 1.20.4, 1.21, and 1.21.4.

Is a mod loader required to use it?

No, it is a server-side vanilla data pack, so no Fabric or Forge is needed.

Does Looting increase what illagers drop?

Yes, Looting is factored into the loot tables, so a higher level improves your drop rates.

Do evokers still drop a totem of undying?

Yes, the vanilla totem drop stays in place and the pack simply adds emeralds on top of it.

Can I actually get a pillager's crossbow now?

Yes, the pillager loot table is changed so its crossbow drops reliably when you kill it.

Will it affect mobs I killed before installing?

No, only illagers defeated after the pack is active use the new drop tables.
