More Mob Heads
by Vanilla Tweaks
All mobs have a chance to drop their head when killed. Collect decorative mob heads from every creature in the game.
Overview
More Mob Heads expands head collecting far beyond the handful of skulls vanilla offers, giving nearly every creature a chance to drop a decorative head when slain. Each head is built on the player-skull system with a custom texture, so you can wall-mount trophies from zombies, cows, axolotls, and more. The drop is probability based, and a Looting sword shifts the odds in your favour. It rewards hunting with a display-worthy souvenir from almost anything you kill.
Great for builders, collectors, and adventure-map makers who want a full gallery of mob trophies to decorate bases and museums. It comes from Vanilla Tweaks, sits in the Loot category, and is rated a simple, drop-in pack to run. Everything happens through vanilla data pack functions, so no mod loader such as Fabric or Forge is required to use it on Minecraft 1.20 through 1.21.4.
Features
- Every mob can drop its head
- Looting enchantment increases chance
- Charged creeper kills guarantee drop
- Decorative player-skull-based heads
How It Works
Under the hood, More Mob Heads relies on plain data pack mechanics rather than any client mod. Here is what happens in-game once it is loaded:
- 1Injects head drops into individual mob loot tables keyed to each creature type
- 2Each head is a player-head item carrying a unique profile texture for that mob
- 3Looting enchantment raises the roll chance, improving odds with stronger swords
- 4A charged creeper explosion kill bypasses the roll and guarantees the head
Supported Versions
Compatibility
Compatible with most data packs.
- Stacks cleanly with Player Head Drops, since that pack targets players rather than mobs
- May clash with other packs that rewrite the same mob loot tables you want heads from
- Charged-creeper guarantee depends on vanilla explosion mechanics and needs no extra setup
More Mob Heads is a pure data pack and does not ship a resource pack, so it changes server-side behaviour without altering textures, models or sounds on the client.

How to Install
More Mob Heads installs as a standard Java Edition data pack and runs on both singleplayer worlds and multiplayer servers. Recent 1.21 releases bumped the data pack format, so keep the pack's pack.mcmeta in step with your server version.
- 1.Download the More Mob Heads pack as a .zip and keep it zipped.
- 2.Open the target world folder — a singleplayer save under .minecraft/saves, or the world folder on your server.
- 3.Drop the .zip into that world's datapacks folder, creating the folder if it does not exist.
- 4.Load the world (or run /reload if it is already open) and run /datapack list to confirm it is enabled.
The pack is built for Minecraft 1.20 through 1.21.4, so it loads on vanilla Java without Fabric, Forge or any other mod loader. Place it in the datapacks folder; head chances apply only to mobs killed after activation, so earlier kills are unaffected.

What versions of Minecraft work with More Mob Heads?
The pack covers Java Edition 1.20, 1.20.1, 1.20.4, 1.21, and 1.21.4. Pick the build that matches your save.
Is a mod required to drop mob heads?
No mods are needed. This is a vanilla data pack and works on a standard Java server or single-player world.
How do I increase my chances of getting a head?
Use a sword with the Looting enchantment, which raises the drop chance per kill. A charged creeper kill guarantees a head outright.
Are these real mob heads or player skulls?
They are decorative heads based on the player-skull item with custom profile textures, so no resource pack is required to see them.
Can I get a head from any mob?
Almost every mob in the game has a head drop chance, letting you collect a near-complete set of trophies.
Does killing with a charged creeper guarantee the drop?
Yes. When a charged creeper explosion is the killing blow, the mob always drops its head instead of rolling for it.
