Coordinates HUD

by Vanilla Tweaks

Displays your current coordinates on the action bar without needing to open the debug screen. Toggle on and off with a trigger.

Overview

Coordinates HUD prints your live X, Y, and Z position to the action bar so you can navigate without opening the F3 debug screen. Vanilla Tweaks runs a repeating function that reads each player's position and writes it to the action bar text, refreshing it continuously. A per-player scoreboard trigger lets anyone switch the readout on or off for themselves, which keeps it friendly on shared servers. It is a lightweight navigation aid that stays out of the way until you want it.

It suits explorers, builders, and survival servers who want constant coordinates without the clutter of the debug screen. It comes from Vanilla Tweaks, sits in the Utility category, and is rated a simple, drop-in pack to run. Everything happens through vanilla data pack functions, so no mod loader such as Fabric or Forge is required to use it on Minecraft 1.20 through 1.21.4.

How It Works

Under the hood, Coordinates HUD relies on plain data pack mechanics rather than any client mod. Here is what happens in-game once it is loaded:

  1. 1A repeating function reads each player's coordinates and pushes them to the action bar.
  2. 2Per-player scoreboard triggers store whether the display is on or off.
  3. 3The readout refreshes every tick so positions update in real time as you move.
  4. 4Output is confined to the action bar, leaving chat and the rest of the HUD untouched.

Supported Versions

1.201.20.11.20.41.211.21.4

Compatibility

May conflict with other action bar packs.

  • May conflict with other packs that also write to the action bar, since they would overwrite each other.
  • Compatible with worldgen and structure packs because it only reads player position.
  • Coexists with most Vanilla Tweaks packs as long as no other one is using the action bar.

Coordinates HUD is a pure data pack and does not ship a resource pack, so it changes server-side behaviour without altering textures, models or sounds on the client.

How to Install

Coordinates HUD installs as a standard Java Edition data pack and runs on both singleplayer worlds and multiplayer servers. Recent 1.21 releases bumped the data pack format, so keep the pack's pack.mcmeta in step with your server version.

  1. 1.Download the Coordinates HUD pack as a .zip and keep it zipped.
  2. 2.Open the target world folder — a singleplayer save under .minecraft/saves, or the world folder on your server.
  3. 3.Drop the .zip into that world's datapacks folder, creating the folder if it does not exist.
  4. 4.Load the world (or run /reload if it is already open) and run /datapack list to confirm it is enabled.

The pack is built for Minecraft 1.20 through 1.21.4, so it loads on vanilla Java without Fabric, Forge or any other mod loader. It is a safe drop-in data pack with no worldgen impact; players enable or disable their own display through its toggle trigger after loading.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Minecraft versions does Coordinates HUD support?

It works on Java Edition 1.20 through 1.21.4, including 1.20.1 and 1.20.4.

Does Coordinates HUD require any mods?

No. It is a vanilla data pack that uses functions and the scoreboard, so no mod loader is needed.

How do I turn the coordinates off?

Each player can toggle their own display on or off using the pack's trigger command, so it is per-player.

Does it affect game performance?

Impact is minimal; it runs a small repeating function and writes only to the action bar.

Will it conflict with other action bar packs?

It can, because two packs writing to the action bar will overwrite each other's text.
